it’s gone. all my data — music, podcasts, photos — everything: gone. Now, all this stuff is safe on my computer at home. I’m not worried about the eventual loss of the data. I have it.
But I also have a four hour drive ahead of me. With NO radio. NO cd albums. Nothing.
But lo, I heart the internets. I was able to get online, subscribe to 5 or 6 podcasts: 3 or 4 NPR ones, Prairie Home Companion, I Should Be Writing, GeekFu, etc.
So now, when I am driving from Tok to Fairbanks, in about 2 hours, I will have listening. I will keep my mind from chewing it’s own legs off. I can stand silence. I can sit and do nothing for quite some time. But I cannot drive this trip without something to distract my mind.
So, thank you, Podcasting world, and thank you, Young’s Motel (home of Fast Eddie’s) for having *free* wireless.
And no, I don’t know why their sign announcing the wifi has the word ‘free’ in asterisks.
