songwriting

Man, I try to write a Weezer song, and I come up with this: Whiskey Glass.

It’s not a bad song. In fact, I’m pretty happy with it, for a demo. But it’s not a Weezer song. Not even close.

What’s a Weezer song? Hard edged, melodic, interesting and ROCKS hard. I’ll keep working on it, though.

As a musician, I love lots of different musicians, bands and styles. Some songs and bands, I identify with purely as a listener — either I can’t reproduce the music as a player or I don’t want to. Other songs and bands, most recently weezer, I identify with both as a listener and a player. I want to emulate the sound, the structures, the “vibe.”

So, that’s why I even try. It’s a way to break out of the same old licks, riffs, and structures that have goten me through the past 20 years of playing. It’s a way to stay happy, fulfilled, and moving ever forward.

Ah, well. Other new demos here: http://drop.io/robotjunky.
